The Rhodes scholarship is an international postgraduate scholarship opening for students to study at the University of Oxford. It is arguably the world’s most prestigious scholarships. Rhodes Scholarships for East African students eligibility
Candidates applying must be a citizen of either of the participating countries and must have been resident in one or more of these countries for at least five of the last ten years.
To apply, you must have been born after 30 September 1993 and on or before 1 October 2000.
However, at the discretion of the National secretary, there may be some exceptions extended towards candidates who are of upper age limit by no more than 2 years, who have undertaken an undergraduate degree of five years or more.
Rhodes Scholarships for East African students requirements
Students applying must have completed their undergraduate degree from and ready to be admitted to postgraduate study at the University of Oxford with a First Class equivalent or a GPA of 3.7 or more.
English Language requirement: Candidates must possess a sufficiently high command of English to meet the English language proficiency requirements of the University of Oxford.
Given the competitive nature of securing a place at the University of Oxford, candidates from countries like Burundi or South Sudan will stand a greater chance of successful admission to Oxford if they have an Honours degree or perhaps have taken an Honours year from a University outside of their country or have studied to Masters Level within their country.
Rhodes Scholarships Application Procedures for East African Students 2019:

Eligible candidates can apply online from 01 June 2019 at http://www.rhodeshouse.ox.ac.uk via the scholarships tab.
Applications must be submitted online along with all supporting documents, by 23:59 East Africa Time (EAT), Friday, 31 August 2019.

Shortlisted candidates will be notified and invited for a social reception cum interview. Note that no candidate will ever be selected without an interview. A shortlisted candidate must be available to attend the interview and social reception, in person.
Interviews will be conducted in Kigali, Rwanda, later in October / early November
Reasonable travel expenses incurred during the course of attending the reception and interview will be reimbursed to candidates traveling from outside of Rwanda. Overnight accommodation may also be provided if necessary.
Applicants are normally emailed the outcome of their application by 15 November 2019.
